First Ever Peet's Cafe Hits Donghu Lu
Peet’s coffee was originally founded by Dutch immigrant Alfred Peet. He moved to the USA and realized post-WW2 coffee was pretty gross he said to himself “I came to the richest country in the world, so why are they drinking the lousiest coffee?” So he founded Peet’s Coffee and Tea roasted his own beans and began to make a difference.
Peet was a coffee and tea expert and he went on to consult with several high-end and well-known coffee retailers globally. Most notably, he was approached by a group of entrepreneurs in 1971 who asked him to supply them with roasted coffee beans for their new venture in Seattle… Starbucks.
“Peet supplied us with roasted coffee, and he taught me how to roast coffee,” Baldwin said. “He was very generous.”
Now Peet’s has opened their very first store outside of the US right here in Shanghai.
Check them out on Donghu Lu for top-notch coffee as well as cakes made by Chef Tim from the Peninsula Hotel. However, we recommend you get there early if you want to try it as it's already really popular.
